I always love the creative imaginations of young children. It brings many smiles to my days. Papaya spent half the morning Monday in her fluffy frog costume, at first hopping and ribbiting about, and then walking around casually, as if wearing a frog suit was the most natural thing in the world to do. Then later we went for a lovely walk - emerging like many of our neighbors from our homes into the warm, inviting sun - Papaya, in her movie star sunglasses, a white sweater with a fuzzy lined hood upon her head (and capris, go figure) - and Buddy, donning his cool sunglasses as well and his McQueen hat - ready for an adventure, and an adventure it was!
Our 20 minute walk to visit the cows and donkeys up the street ended up being probably around an hour - from Buddy being "blown" all over the sidewalk by apparantly a fierce wind that only he could feel, to crazy earthquakes that make walking a wobbly ordeal filled with squeals from little mouths. There were "snakes" all over - in the cracks of the sidewalk, in the woods, and one quite musical snake that Buddy heard "playing a banjo" - and what better thing to find but a Pirate's treasure, marked by the big white "X" on the sidewalk! Oh and the treacherous fire ants that were upon the sidewalk.....and the horrible fate of one ant that I sadly decided (regrettably) when I stepped on it, to Buddy's complete and utter horror and despair!! "MOMMY!!! He had food he was bringing to the others!! He was just trying to get to the grass!" I heard about that one ALL the way home, being chastised by my 2 year old. Needless to say, I feel pretty awful that I squished that ant!!
After ice cold drinks, the kids settled into playing while dinner was being made, baths given, and kids snuggled into their cozy, warm beds, and one Momma spending her evening writing her new blog......
